Singaporean Beatboxer Dharni featured on Beatbox Battle TV

Meet Dharni. He's a beatboxer from Singapore who is gaining international recognition for his beatboxing. He recently was featured on BeatBox Battle TV. Dharni began beatboxing in 2002 and eventually he created a buzz about beatboxing in Singapore busking on the streets when the art was relatively unheard of back then. Later Dharni founded the Singporean beatboxing community and helped pushed for the very first beatbox champonship in Singapore during the Black Eye Peas concert in 2005.

Here's a two-part clip of Dharni doing his beatbox set at the 2008 Beatbox Battle Convention in Berlin, Germany. In the first clip he does both the erhu at 3:20 and the guzheng at 4:20. Dharni even does that vibrato sound with the guzheng too. The guzheng is spot on!

Ma Ying-Jeou's interview with Deutsche Welle about cross-strait ties with Mainland China (in English)

Ma Ying-Jeou is an interesting fellow. As Taiwanese president elect Ma Ying-Jeou has greatly improved Taiwan and Mainland China relations to the best we have seen in the past 60 years since Taiwan has claimed independence. But there are some fears from some Taiwanese especially from the opposition party that Ma is leading Taiwan into unification with the mainland. In this interview with Deutsche Welle, you can hear straight from the Horse's mouth (Ma = 馬 which means horse, get it? lol) about his plans for cross-strait ties with the mainland.

I dunno, it just might be me, but after watching that interview, it appears to me that Ma IS open to reunification with the mainland, providing that the mainland follows some certain conditions.

"Confucius" Trailer (Starring Chow Yun Fat as Confucius)

There's a new Confucius movie starring Chow Yun Fat as Confucius. Chow Yun Fat? The God of Gamblers--that Chow Yun Fat? Bingo. Yep, that one. Let's hope he'll do the role justice. It is said that the movie will have some romance and kung fu in it. As for the romance, I'll let that slide because Confucius' lineage still continues to this day. I'm pretty sure that was a result of Confucius laying his sagely mack down. Otherwise, how do you explain the hundreds of thousands of people with his name? Okay as for the kung fu, WTF. I'm not really sure about that. But then again Confucius was living in pretty corrupt times... I guess he had to defend himself? LOL. But anyways, this movie looks epic and I'm definitely going to watch this one. It is scheduled to be out in early 2010.

J.Reyez - Passing Me By feat. Chris Jackson

J.Reyez, a Korean rapper from Hamilton, Ontario has new song out called Passing Me By featuring Chris Jackson. This is a break-up song and J.Reyez sounds really emotionally intense about it. But hey, at least he got it all out right? And that's therapeutic! Thank goodness for rap music. The YouTube video features the lyrics of Passing Me By, so feel free to read along.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper gets a "scolding" from Chinese Premier Wen Jia Bao in Beijing

Stephen Harper: "Errrm... are you sure this is safe to drink?"
Wen Jia Bao: "Of course it is. It is MADE IN CHINA! Cheers!"
(Reuters)

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is currently in Beijing to thaw relations between Canada and China. Boy, was he ever surprised when he got a "scolding" (as the Canadian press put it) by Chinese Premier Wen Jia Bao. Here's what Wen Jia Bao said [via translator]:
This is your first trip to China and this is the first meeting between the Chinese premier and the Canadian prime minister in almost five years. Five years is too long a time for China-Canada relations and that is why there are comments in the media that your visit is one that should have taken place earlier.
To which Harper retorted:
...I agree with you Premier that five years is a long time. It’s also been almost five years since we’ve had yourself or President Hu in our country, and so I hope as we approach this important milestone in our relationship, the forty year anniversary, that yourself or President Hu will also have the opportunity in the not too distant future to visit Canada.

Touche. Well played Harper, NOT! Harper are you crazy? What the heck was the point in ignoring Beijing for the past 5 years? Harper should have paid a visit to Beijing long ago to establish economic ties and more business dealings with China for the well-being of Canadian citizens. 5 years as Premier Wen said, is too long! Canada needs to step up to stay ahead of the curve!

North Korean "Defector Boxing Girl" Choi Hyun-mi (Korean Million Dollar Baby)

Choi Hyun-mi or the "defector boxer girl" as she is often called, is making big headlines in South Korea. Choi Hyun-mi is originally from North Korea and in 2004 her family made a decision to defect North Korea. Three years later after settling in Seoul in 2007, she she became the WBA featherweight boxing champion and is still the reigning champion after successfully defending it last week against Japanese challenger Tsubasa Tenku. Choi Hyun-mi is a real-deal Korean "Million Dollar Baby". I smell a movie about her life story somewhere down the road...

Check out this pic of Choi Hyun-mi punching Tsubasa Tenku. Wow! Look at that punching power and the ripple-effect it has on Tsubasa's cheeks! LOL.

Choi: "This one is for KORRRREEAAAA!!"

Jin said the battle didn't happen because Grind Time wasn't ready!

In my last blog post about the Jin vs Dizaster battle, I thought that Jin stood Dizaster up but that was my own speculation. But in this new video, Jin clears everything up saying that he was in LA during mid-November and was ready to battle but the reason why the battle didn't happen was because Grind Time wasn't ready.

Grind Time you guys better not mess this up the second time! Make sure the Jin vs Dizaster battle will happen in the Battle Of LA!

Dizaster clowning on Jin (the Dizaster vs Jin battle hasn't happened yet!)

You guys are probably wondering, what happened to the Jin vs Dizaster battle? It was supposed to happen around mid-November in LA (which Jin stipulated). But the battle never happened!! So as you can imagine, Dizaster is choked that he got stood up by Jin so he decided to post a video of himself talking smack and clowning Jin a little bit. If you watch the video of Dizaster's silly antics, this might clue you in on Dizaster's material if or when he battles Jin. If the Jin vs Dizaster battle is ever going to happen, it just might happen around New Year's.

Soft Lipa in the studio working on "Winter Sweet"

Freestyle Battle - Passda vs G Soldier

In this freestyle battle, Passda takes on G Soldier for Grind Time South, the Atlanta division. In that first round, Passda exposed G Soldier and his gun play rhymes. That was COLD!! In the second round, Passda made fun of G Soldier's appearance calling him "Slim Thug", hahaha. Passda's third round was hella weak though. As for G Soldier, his first round sounded like typical gun play, but nothing really hit. His second round was about Asian movie stereotypes which was alright... I wasn't really feelin much of that. G Soldier really stepped up in the third round and does a crazy multi rhyme which was really crazy. G Soldier wins after the 3rd round.

Personally, I would have liked to see an OT. I think the judges chose G Soldier as the winner because he had more stage presence and was spitting with fury. Poor Passda. He seems very quick-witted and he's a super funny guy, but he needs to something about his stage presence and rhyme delivery or else he'll lose again if he ever faces against another thug-like rapper.

MastaMic & Justic Family interview on ChooChooTV

Here is an interview of MastaMic and the Justice Family on ChooChooTv that was aired on November 6th, 2009. The interview is conducted all in English with MastaMic doing most of the talking for the Justice Family. In the interview, MastaMic talks about people's misconceptions about hip hop, the rise of freestyle rap in Cantonese, his response to people dissing his I love Hong Kong Girls music video, and his obsession with sneakers.

MastaMic is currently working on his mixtape so be on the lookout for it when it is released!!

Matt Brevner - Top of the Globe (Live Performance)

Matt Brevner

I also met rapper and producer Matt Brevner (formerly known as MC-B and B Dot), at the Vancouver Asian Hip Hop Summit. Brevner is one of Vancouver's rising hip hop stars and is currently getting some spins in rotation on The Beat 94.5 FM, Vancouver's urban radio station. Brevner, who is half-Japanese, quarter Trinidadian and quarter German, was born and raised in New Westminster, British Columbia in the Metro Vancouver area.

After he finished his last song for his set at the Asian Hip Hop Summit, Brevner came and sat down with me. We were chillin and talking about the last song he performed (which was Top of the Globe, but I didn't know what was the song title at the time). Then he told me, "Yeah, chicks like that song." Hahaha, funny guy. Anyways, here's a video of Matt Brevner performing Top of the Globe live at Wild Coyote on June 12, 2009. Brevner also self-produced this song and I'm really diggin the production. Top of the Globe really grasps the feel of Vancouver's urban street culture, which is in dire need of representation. A lot of us urban youth from Vancouver have been waiting for a song like this to help put us on the map!

Freestyle Battle - Fredo vs Decay

Fredo takes on Decay who came all the way from Brighton, UK for Battle of the Bay 5. Decay was making jokes about Fredo's weight and Fredo took the job of homeland security while poking fun of Decay's accent and about him being from the UK. Fredo takes the win after the 3rd round.

I have feeling that the crowd was a bit biased about the battle because they reacted more towards Fredo's lines and wasn't really feeling Decay's English accent and swagger. (I wasn't either.) You gotta give props to Decay though for not going through the racist route. Decay was going through the same route as Lyraflip's battle aginst Fredo with the fat jokes but it still wasn't enough for a victory. Fredo won mainly with his American bigotry. But if you want to compare both MC's skill-wise and bar for bar in this battle, Fredo had better lines and better delivery. His victory was well deserved.

Freestyle Battle - Kid Caustic vs A-Class

Kid Caustic from Union City, California takes on A-Class for Grind Time New York. A-Class comes in with a lot of multis and had some good rebuttals but he was rapping too fast for the judges. I could barely make half of what A-Class was saying myself. Kid Caustic was coming in with Asian jokes but his punch-lines were audible so the battle was given to Kid Caustic after the 3rd round. A-Class.... homie you gotta slow down!!

Freestyle Battle - Dumbfoundead vs Kid Twist

Dumbfoundead makes his debut in King of the Dot and takes on Kid Twist. This freestyle battle is full of jokes and punch-lines. The crowd was reacted to almost every line from both rappers and that was a really annoying. Dumbfoundead called Kid Twist the guy from Twilight, lol. But that wasn't enough because Kid Twist had came really prepared and won the crowd. Kid Twist wins this freestyle battle.

Homies - Welcome to the Good Life MV feat. Jin, Joe Flizzow & Gabby

Check out this new music video by called Welcome to the Good Life by Taiwanese hip hop group called Homies featuring Jin, Joe Flizzow and Gabby. Welcome to the Good Life was produced by Terry Tye Lee. I gotta say, this is nice slow-tempo song for the clubs. I like music that celebrates the finer side of life. Its refeshing to hear Jin coming out with an English verse although I don't know if he ever did any club songs before. Malaysian rapper Joe Flizzow comes in the smoothest in this one. The two Chinese rappers need to slow down on the beat though. Both of them made a good effort but there's no swagger in their raps. Their rapping sounds a bit too harsh for me to be in club music. Oh and if you guys missed it, there's a Chinese Tupac in the music video. Tupac isn't dead. He's in Taiwan!

Pic of the Chinese Tupac:

Obama bows to Japanese Emperor Akihito!

Obama: "I am greatly dishonored Emperor Akihito, for owing you so much money!"

The press is going buck wild about Obama bowing to Emperor Akihito. Make what you want of it. Some say that Obama was showing a sign of respect, others say it was totally inappropriate and it was Obama showing the weakness of the USA. But I know the truth! Obama was thanking Emeror Akihito for buying MORE US government debt. As Bloomberg reported, Japan had bought AN ADDITIONAL $105 billion dollars of US Treasuries this year, which exceeded this year's amount of US debt that China bought. Hell, if I loaned someone $105 billion dollars, they better bow before me! Hahaha.

Check out this funny video that compares the Obama-Akihito meeting with Akihito shaking hands with politicians and royalties of other nations. Notice how the other politicians and royalties did not bow?

Drunken Fists - Big Bossin' MV

Chinx and Shynobi from Drunken Fists Ent have released a music video of Big Bossin' off the Open Bar Drinks on Us mixtape. When I heard first heard Big Bossin' I thought that Shynobi was black because of the way he enunciates his words. But after watching the music video it clear to me that he's actually Chinese. Lol, silly me. Cool MV though. Shout outs to Drunken Fists Ent!!

The Chinese Capitalizing on Obama's visit

China is definitely no stranger to wacky marketing. As shown on Reuters, the Chinese are capitalizing on Obama's visit to China next week. An artist from Beijing has made a bronze effigy modeled after an issue of Time Magazine where Obama was on the front cover. This bronze effigy can be lit up to symbolize "Obama on fire" (in the good way). WTF. A hairdresser is shown advertising crew cuts as "Obama haircuts". And get this. In the boutiques they have a logo with Obama wearing Mao's cap and they call it "Oba Mao". Lol, that's a good one. After all, Obama has been pulling some textbook socialist moves since he got into power.

Hahahaha! This guy has lost his marbles! But you gotta give him props for doing an excellent translation of The Star-Spangled Banner. The anthem has such a different feel when it's being sung in Chinese though....

MC Hotdog eats up his own words!!

Does anyone remember MC Hotdog's 韩流来袭 (Korean Wave Invasion) song where he was dissing Taiwanese pop singers and their corny love songs? Surprise, surprise. MC Hotdog's in one now. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! MC Hotdog must have fell off his tree and lost his mind. This song is sad sack of shit. I can't even fathom why he even agreed to be featured in this song.

What's the difference between Christine Fan Wei Qi and Yuki Hsu or A-mei or Coco Lee (who he dissing in 韩流来袭)? They all sound the same to me. They just sing love songs and maybe they like to make cute little poses once in a while. Don't tell me that Christine Fan Wei Qi's music is "realer" than Yuki Hsu or A-mei. Aww, give me a break!! Don't tell me that this song 1到10=我和你 (1 to 10=Me And You) has depth to it. It has NONE. There's no feel to it, no soul and no depth it AT ALL. It just sounds like it was meant for little kids or for Sesame Street. Anyways, I'm very disappointed in MC Hotdog for being in this shitty song and contradicting his message of bringing "real music" to Taiwan.

Here's further proof of how dumb this song is. Here's a clip of the singer, Christine Fan Wei Qi wearing a funky skirt and performing 1到10=我和你 for the oompa loompas behind her. LOL at the oopma loompa bouncing up and down in the far right.

Video footage of Kensho Kuma performing in Tokyo, Japan

Here's video footage of Kensho Kuma performing live in Japan with Anom Flux back in July 2009. Most of the video footage is from Kensho's in-store performance inside Wenod Records in Ebisu, Tokyo. The remaining footage is Kensho doing a live concert in Club Game in Shibuya.

When you watch his performance, you can tell right off the bat that Kensho is very passionate about hip hop!!

Hong Kong uncle bumps into the busts of unsuspecting women on the streets

There's a pervert on the loose in the streets of Hong Kong known as the "chest-hitting uncle". What this chest-hitting uncle does is that he bumps into unsuspecting women with his shoulder and elbow, specifically targeting their bust area. The uncle does this very nonchalantly making look like he bumped into them by accident. Yes, because you can feel SOOO much with your shoulder and elbow.

The video footage you see above is from OnTV, showing how he bumps into the unsuspecting women. The camera guy was literally tailgating the perverted uncle and the uncle didn't even notice one bit. Smile! You're on candid camera!

Freestyle Battle - TheSaurus vs Illmaculate

From Battle of the Bay 5, this is the battle of TheSaurus taking on Illmaculate. This was a really heated battle since both these rappers know each other very well personally, lyrically and they were also rhyme partners that won the World Rap Championships together. In this battle TheSaurus was going for the short jokes and Illmaculate was going for jokes about TheSaurus' rap career. The battle was so heated that at the end of the third round, the crowd was asking for OT. After the OT, Illmaculate was declared the winner.

FYI: This is the same Illmaculate that Jin called out to battle. As you can see, Illmaculate is no joke and he's a lyrical force to be reckoned with. Personally, I'm really eager to see him and Jin battle this mid November, if/when it happens.

Chinx is the winner of the 50Mics New York Tournament!

50Mics New York Tournament winner Chinx

I just got word from Chinx that he has won the 50Mics Tournament in New York, sponsored by The Source Magazine and Digiwaxx! The 50mics Tournament is a nationwide search in the United States for the best independent hip hop talent. For all the artists that were qualified for the 50 Mics Tournament, they performed in front of a live audience and were then critiqued by the judges. And of course, the judges chose Chinx as the winner for the tournament.

From a facebook message from Chinx:
nyc was crazy bro.. we went there, did our set and ppl loved it. we won the whole competition
The tournament was also filmed by MTV and when I get a hold the footage, I'll definitely be posting the videos up! Big ups to Chinx for holdin it down and representing the movement!!! Chinx is making some major moves!! Y'all better watch out for this kid!!

If you guys haven't yet downloaded the latest mixtape from the Drunken Fists crew yet, by all means, download the Open Bar Drinks On Us mixtape here.

Jin's clarification about the upcoming Jin vs Dizaster battle

Jin says if the battle with Dizaster is about to happen, it would have to be on November 16th or 17th. That's when he will be in LA and then after he will be flying back to Hong Kong.

GRIND TIME.....Y'ALL BETTER MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!

Jin accept's Dizaster's challenge in a freestyle battle AND wants to battle Illmaculate on the same day!

(shoutouts to a-Tunes for the heads up on this!)

BIG NEWS! Jin has just accepted Dizaster's challenge to a FREESTYLE BATTLE! He will battle Dizaster on 3 conditions:

#1 The battle is to be held in LA (he is scheduled to be there in mid November)
#2 Unlimited time rounds
#3 He gets to battle Illmaculate on the same day.

Dizaster calling out Jin:

Dizaster ain't no walk in the park. He has made quite a name for himself in the Grind Time freestyle battle league. Furthermore, Jin wants to battle Illmaculate too? Both Dizaster and Illmaculate are MONSTERS when it comes to battling. To top that off, the freestyle battle game has drastically changed since Jin has left the freestyle battle circuit. Since the blowing up of Grind Time, freestyle battles now are more "writtens" rather than actual freestyles. So I don't really know how Jin would fare against these "new school" battle veterans. Whatever the case maybe, I can't wait for Jin to make his comeback!!

Mainland Chinese commercial: God's Hand Bra (makes your boobs look bigger)

Check out this trashy assed "in your face" commercial from Mainland China that's advertising a new bra called God's Hand that makes breasts look bigger. By the power of God's Hand bra (lol at the name...) it can make B cups turn into C cups or even D cups. How does it work you ask? The bra has buttons on on the front. When you press the buttons, it MAGICALLY inflates the magical padding inside the bra....

The girls in the video are quite something aren't they? Hell yeah! All of em look smokin hot and they all have a ho-ish kinda look to them. It's really refreshing to see Chinese girls "packaging" themselves like this instead of the typical big-eyed and child-like kind of look that most Chinese girls try to pull off.

Rookadamus' letter from prison

Rookadamus

As reported on a-Tunes, one of Rook's hand-written letters dated September 26, 2009, was recently posted on his MySpace page. Rook wrote the letter from a prison in Golden, Colorado, where he is still currently serving time. For a guy that raps about the grimey street life, Rook's hand printing surprisingly super neat and tidy.

Dumbfoundead - She Don't Care (Acoustic Version)

Here's a clip of Dumbfoundead doing a live performance of She Don't Care to Vince Gyre's acoustic guitar at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Fransisco. Don't they kinda remind you of buskers when they are performing under that bright yellow light? =))

LADdoubleE, AS & Wizdom - R.O.M. (Pinoy rap from Germany)

Check out this song by LADdoubleE, AS & Wizdom from Gütersloh, Germany called R.O.M. which is an abreviation of "rap ohne mich" (rap without me). This song was produced by Wizdom.

From an email from Wizdom:
Rap ohne mich means "Rap without me".
We are spittin about, what Rap would be without us.

For example, the 2nd rapper (AS) is spittin the line

"Rap ohne mich ist wie X-Men ohne Wolverine"
translated "Rap without me is like X-Men without Wolverine"...

Prince Supreme - Dirty Game MV (Khmer Rap)

Triangle Offense - TGIF

Triangle Offense - TGIF

Triangle Offense (a rap trio from Jersey City, New Jersey consisting of Adonis, Sci and Finesse) has released a new single called TGIF. This track will be on their upcoming mixtape called The Courting.

Description (from the Triangle Offense blog):
TGIF is a ode to what’s “fresh” to us. Being “fresh” isn’t about having certain types or brands of clothing. It’s about self-confidence. It’s about self-awareness – knowing how great you are and acknowledging yourself. We all need to take time to do that. It’s healthy! I remember being young and listening to Michael Jackson. I would lip-sync his songs and copy his dances in the mirror and it made me feel like I was THE KING. [I specifically remember listening and dancing to "Bad" + "Smooth Criminal" and feeling like I was the shit!] I want to be able to give someone that same feeling. I want them to play this song while getting dressed to go out with their friends. Pick out your outfit to this. Look into the mirror and confidently sing along, “Thank God I’m Fresh!” No matter who you are, where you are, or where you’re from…don’t let anyone dictate what “fresh” is. Being “fresh” is what you make it. Be who you are. Individuality is what gives color to life. Thank God for THAT.

BoA - Bump Bump! feat Verbal MV

BoA - Bump Bump! feat Verbal

BoA hooked up with Verbal again for her latest Japanese single called Bump Bump!. I'm diggin this cut! And the music video is awesome. It has a a real organic feel to it. I thought at first that the music video was going into a Black Eyed Peas kind of direction, but no... its quite Jpop-ish actually. BoA is also sporting a new haircut. A short-haired BoA? I thought I'd never see the day. I like the new look though. Its fresh. And Verbal never ceases to amaze me. He always seems to wear the most outrageous and flamboyant gear and still looks fly. Verbal's fashion-sense is literally out of this world. He really, really reminds me of a Japanese Shock-G (from Digital Underground). Shock-G also wore some really funky gear back in the Digital Underground days.

If the instrumental sounds familiar to you...that's because Bump Bump! samples the very same Soul Power '74 by Maceo & The Macks, as Jennifer Lopez's 2005 smash-hit: Get Right.

Asian Babe - Elise Estrada

Elise Estrada is Canada's newest pop sensation that has been churning out hit singles in the Canadian music charts for quite some time now. She is from Filipino descent and is from Vancouver, British Columbia (my hometown yay!).

Here's her debut hit single called Insatiable, which was released in the summer of 2007. The music video of Insatiable is about a stalker of hers. The funny thing about this music video is that in the opening when the stalker calls her and just breathes heavily, she hangs up and then breaks into a dance.

Poison is a more recent hit from Elise Estrada. This song was released in the summer of 2009. In this music video, Elise shows her naughty and wild side. There's even a scene of her dancing around in dominatrix costume. I think this song is about her trying to break out from her strict Catholic high school upbringing... :D

Dumbfoundead chillin with Timothy DelaGhetto (Traphik)
