A nation with more than 90 million people and is composed of more than 7,100 islands is now gearing up for the country’s first automated election. Even hiphop crews, rappers, producers, singers, artists are taking their stand to be part of the Filipino nation’s democracy. On a non sequitur note: When I first saw Drew Deezy, I immediately thought that he looked like someone familiar...but I couldn't quite put my finger on who exactly. Now it just dawned on me. Drew Deezy looks just like Big Pun (may he rest in peace) BEFORE Big Pun gained weight!!!

LOLLL! Drew Deezy is actually Samoan, but he does pull off that Latino/Puerto Rican look pretty well with the corn-rows and all.

D-Pryde, a 16 year old Spanish/Filipino rapper reppin Brampton, Ontario has just released the music video of his Youtube Remix of Drake's Forever featuring fellow YouTube stars: Traphik, Dyme-A-Duzin, Dumbfoundead, Prince EA, and Ahmir. The song was released a while back in December 2009. Traphik and D-Pryde both killed it! Hey what do you know?! I spotted fellow Pinoy rapper Mike Swift making a cameo appearance in D-Pryde's scene.

D-City - The Remedy

I remember about 2 or 3 years ago I saw a Caucasian high school kid wearing a black t-shirt with the words "D-City" on it. Up till then have never heard of the term D-City so I was curious and so I asked him what or where is D-City, because I'm thinking, aren't we in Vancouver aka VanCity? What does D-City stand for then? He told me D-City was a hip hop group and he was real excited to tell me about it too. Back then, I was pretty much under the dark about Vancouver's local hip hop scene (I still am pretty much). So I just shrugged off whatever he said.

Then flash forward to mid-February this year and I came across this music video called Feelin Like Whatever. Wow. I thought the song was pretty dope. The lyrics and production are on point. Heh, and what do you know, its done by D-City. Now I know what the kid was talking about! And from Vancouver too? Hey, that's a bonus.

D-City is a hip hop duo from North Delta comprised of Pinoy cousins Spot and Ess. The track Feelin Like Whatever is off their second album The Remedy (2009).

Bambu has just released a new music video for Slow Down off his new EP ...paper cuts.... This track features Prometheus Brown who is also known as Geologic from the Seattle hip hop duo Blue Scholars. This song is real heavy!! Even though the song is called Slow Down, both Bambu and Geologic rap really fast in this one. And the MV is dope!! It features display of Filipino martial arts such as Eskrima or Filipino style stick-fighting. Definitely, check this one out.

The sexiest election campaign rally EVER!!

Whoaa.. is this how they really do election rallies in the Philippines? Those pinays are smokin hot, especially the one to the right of D-Coy. There's a WHOLE LOT of hip thrusting in their dance and even a little ass wiggling for the crowd. I don't know much about this "Erap" guy they are all rooting for, but I can tell you off the rip that if that's how he runs his election campaign rallies, this guy is a straight up GANGSTA.

Hours before taking the stage at the Bad Boy Street Showcase in Brooklyn, Jersey City natives Triangle Offense will be releasing their next single, "The Alarm." The single, a collaborative effort between T.O. and Envision Nightlife's (http://www.envisionnightlife.com/) DJ Nano, is featured on their next mixtape "The Courting," which is set to be drop for free download on their website, www.triangle-offense.com.

"Nano and I met when we were young. Growing up, I always thought he had a good ear for music," recounts T.O. member Finesse. "While working with him on this song, Nano gave us a lot of insight on what people in the club like and don't like. Getting his co-sign on our music meant a lot."

The ambiance of the record is dark while still finding a party atmosphere within ominous electronic sounds. "We wanted people to hear the song and taste alcohol on their breath and feel the warmth of an overly packed club," says Nemo, half of Jersey Boys Music. "I think we accomplished that."

"The Courting is going to take you on a night out with Triangle Offense," describes Finesse. "The Alarm sets the stage. When you hear the alarm, you'll know you're in the club."

To promote the song, DJ Nano has been including it in his set while spinning at clubs across Manhattan, including Club Rewind and Gramercy Room. Triangle Offense gave partygoers a preview of the song when they performed it alongside DJ Nano at SPiNYC this winter.

Triangle Offense continues to promote themselves on the road to releasing The Courting, recently earning a spot on the Bad Boy Street Showcase by beating out 17 other hopefuls during an audition hosted by Indie Elite Promotions.

Filipino hip hop documentary: "Lyrical Empire: Hip Hop in Metro Manila"

Here's the trailer for an upcoming documentary of the hip hop scene in Manila, Philippines called Lyrical Empire: Hip Hop in Metro Manila, directed by Mark Redondo Villegas. Some of the notable figures in the Filipino hip hop scene such as Chrizo from Turbulence Productions, MC Dash, and the 2008 World Hip Hop Dance champions the Philippine Allstars are featured in this documentary.

Freestyle Battle - Fredo vs Decay

Fredo takes on Decay who came all the way from Brighton, UK for Battle of the Bay 5. Decay was making jokes about Fredo's weight and Fredo took the job of homeland security while poking fun of Decay's accent and about him being from the UK. Fredo takes the win after the 3rd round.

I have feeling that the crowd was a bit biased about the battle because they reacted more towards Fredo's lines and wasn't really feeling Decay's English accent and swagger. (I wasn't either.) You gotta give props to Decay though for not going through the racist route. Decay was going through the same route as Lyraflip's battle aginst Fredo with the fat jokes but it still wasn't enough for a victory. Fredo won mainly with his American bigotry. But if you want to compare both MC's skill-wise and bar for bar in this battle, Fredo had better lines and better delivery. His victory was well deserved.
