Geniuz F - 三二七的殺機 (Mo Liu Mic Jo Gor Part 2)

Hong Kong rapper Geniuz F (formerly known as Future.G), has a new song called 三二七的殺機 which is a follow up to his last song Mo Liu Mic Jo Gor. The beat was done by and mixed by Hoax. This is a real mellow song. The feel of 三二七的殺機 reminds me a bit of Warren G's early tracks with an authentic HK flavor to it. Looks like Geniuz F really stepped up his flow. I'll be on the look out for more releases from him in the future (no pun intended).

MastaMic has just released his 09 HK Rap Up music video where he plays a news reporter relaying all the major Hong Kong news from 2009.

It looks like MastaMic has a new bowl hair cut. He now looks like one of the long lost members of Fama.

Footage of Jin's 828 VLT Concert

Jin has uploaded his footage of his 828 Vita Lemon Tea concert. The concert is strictly in Cantonese. I think the songs Jin performed in this concert are from his ABC album. Part 3 starts with a a freestyle contest. Also, MastaMic and 24Herbs make a guest appearance to perform a couple of songs.

24Herbs - Hu Ge MV

24Herbs has released their newest music video for one of their songs called Hu Ge. I thought at first the chorus of Hu Ge was either in Spanish or Portuguese because it kinda sounds like Spanish or Portuguese (due to my ignorance of both languages) and also because the song has a pseudo-kinda-sounding reggaeton instrumental. Then I read in between the lines of "Hu Ge Clea Va Ge I Li Ke Clea Va Ge," and a grin flashed across my face. The chorus is freakin' briliant!! One really cool thing about the Hu Ge music video is that it features 3D scenes of the girls (but you gotta wear those red-blue 3D glasses to see the 3D effects).

Shortly after the release of Hu Ge, 24Herbs producer Ghost Style wrote in his blog about how the song originated:
Last night we (24Herbs) released our new video "Hu Ge". I love this one. Shout-out to Mo, Wy and Wen who did a great job! Thanks guys! Pretty organic the way it came out and in my opinion that's the best way to write music. To create stuff that is original, an expression of u and that people can 'feel' on different levels is a gift and the best feeling. How it happened was we were driving and saw a fine woman wearing a 'deep v' top. JBS says, "Clea Va Ge", we all laughed and i added "Hu Ge!" haha It was kinda Latin sounding and so, always kept in my mind for a reggaton-type song. JBS comes up with crazy slang all day--this is one of his classics for sure. Thanks to 24Herbs and Revolution for being supportive from the get-go. They took a risk to make some real music. Love that. Another classic.

Jin endorses Vita Lemon Tea

Jin's new Lemon bling-bling, Pic 2

(shoutouts to ayojin.com for the pics)

For all you guys wondering what is Jin doing nowadays and what is he up to-- well... Jin has a new a endorsement for Vita Lemon Tea! Looks like Vita is trying to use hip hop to advertise their lemon tea just like Coca-cola company used hip hop to advertise Sprite. Vita Lemon tea is quite a popular iced lemon tea in Hong Kong and its been around forever. Heck, I even remember a lot of the Chinese kids back in my elementary school days would be drinking this brand of lemon tea during lunch time. Not me though, my parents always got me apple juice for lunch instead hahaha. Most of you North Americans who will watch the commercial below will be culture-shocked. Yeah its a bit corny and cheesy but that's how they do in Hong Kong haha. Actually, quite a lot of things in Hong Kong's media are cheesy and corny. And I don't say this to purposely offend any of you guys who come from Hong Kong but it is what it is. And furthermore, this is commercial is a reflection on how the mainstream in Hong Kong perceives hip hop culture. It looks like Hong Kong hip hop has a lot of work to do and has a looooooong ways to go!

MastaMic & The Justice Family interview on HK Live!

Here is an interview with Hong Kong's Freestyle King Mastamic and his crew The Justice Family on HK Live!. The Justice Family is comprised of the rap duo Justice Leauge (MastaMic and Big Sammy) and 3 DJs: DJ FatB, DJ Moka and Tedman. In the interview, MastaMic said that the hip hop market in Hong Kong is very small right now simply because the locals in Hong Kong do not understand hip hop music. Their perception of hip hop is that it is meant to be comical or light-hearted type of music. When talking about his goals or plans for the future, MastaMic said one of his goals is to help further develop the Chinese hip hop scene and spread it across Asia.

Ah Phat - HOW TO MAKE YOURSELF AS PAIN AS HELL!

"Ah Phat" from 24Herbs

Ah Phat from the Hong Kong rap group 24Herbs posted some videos of him getting his ear pierced and getting a really cool Iron Man tattoo on his leg. In these videos you get to see Ah Phat wincing in pain. He calls these videos: "HOW TO MAKE YOURSELF AS PAIN AS HELL!". Yes, Phat. Beauty is pain. The more painful, the more beautiful it is.

Edison Chen breaks his silence on CNN

Its been over a year and then some since one of Hong Kong's biggest scandals: the internet release of sex photos involving Edison Chen with some of Hong Kong's biggest female celebrities. Now singer-actor (and rapper) Edison Chen finally breaks his silence on CNN's Talk Asia about the scandal, his death threats, his career and the whole schebang. The interviewer asked him a whole slew of gut-wrenching questions about the scandal and you could see all the awkwardness in Edison's facial expressions and body language in answering them. It was as if Edison was just reliving his nightmare again. I personally found the interview very awkward to watch.

24Herbs - Respect Tou Pok Kai

24Herbs -24Herbs

Respect Tou Pok Kai is the debut hit-single from 24Herbs. The phrase Respect Tou Pok Kai is an oxymoron. On one hand you have the word "respect" and on the other you have "Pok Kai". Pok Kai is a curse word in Cantonese which literally means "go drop dead on the street". And so when you put it all together, Respect Tou Pok Kai means respect till you drop dead LOL. Respect Tou Pok Kai song has really, really, really grown on me. I think this song is awesome. First of all, the song has a catchy beat and a catchy hook. Secondly, it has a really a positive message that advocates respect for all people. Third, the song has a bit of an edge, which is something refreshing amongst all the squeaky-clean and crappy Cantopop songs nowadays. Respect Tou Pok Kai can be found in 24Herbs' self-titled album released in 2008.

RESPECT TOU POK KAAAAAAAI!!!!
